Influence – What we Leave Behind

My husband and I enjoy visiting graveyards when we visit small towns in America. We think about the historical markers and the lives that were lived and what things might have been like.

Living in those times gone by, I realize, how hard some things must have been. I find, in some ways, how lucky we are to be born for such a time as this.

We find ourselves looking on with compassion and somehow connecting to humanity long past. I find peacefulness, blessedness and my mind thinks of a great God who made so many human beings from the beginning of time. It is awe-inspiring to me.

I contemplate about my own life and how I too have an expiration date unknown to me. When I’m gone I don’t care what I leave behind and who inherits my things. Nothing was ever mine anyway. All were gifts from God to me.

I don’t care if I am remembered for what I have done, or said, or made.
It matters not if they remember my name or give tribute to me or erect a statue or put up a plaque bearing my name.

I don’t care where I am buried or if my grave is one that is seen or unseen. I don’t need flowers, I don’t need your visit. I don’t need any
donation dedicated to honoring or in remembrance of me.

Please don’t write me a song, a poem, or a story about me. It matters nothing and soon all will be lost anyway, all will blow away like smoke.

I want no special service, parade or party. We had our time together and now we will part and make our life count for another.

The only thing I hope that I can give you is that I had some influence on you to do good. Did I help you be good? Are you charitable because of something I said or inspired in you?

Good is the only thing that will last. All that is good. God is good. He is the epitome of goodness.

I don’t want to inspire excellence in you. I care not that you have received your master’s degree or better. It matters not to me that you have tripled your income and employed hundreds if not thousands of people.

Have you become the man or woman God created you to be? Do you honor Him? Do you honor integrity? Are you good by God’s standards or just human standards?

Dear God, help me to be an influencer for good as I continue to live my life out in these last days. Today is the first day of the rest of my life. Help me with goodness. Help me to be good.

“Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” (Psalm 23:6)

I like to write for the pure enjoyment of writing short excerpts about life in general. I would want my writing to bring inspiration or encouragement to the faint-hearted or those looking for some direction, purpose, or meaning. I am searching daily for what it is God wants me to do and who he wants me to become. It is a growing pain for me. We all have something new we can learn and share with others.
