Can I Change a Thing?

I like to reflect on our honorable military in service now and our veterans and all who wear the badge of freedom. The times we live in, have changed the way these men and women on the frontline are being treated.

They stand in the gap for those who love freedom and those who would want to embrace tyranny. They do what I can not but for my voice. Those lay it all on the line for me and run towards the enemy and danger and fire to protect me.

Having so many patriots in my own family, and others, who have made an impression on me, who fought in wars to defend freedom. Some may not have carried a physical badge of courage or traveled to dangerous shores because of duty or assignment, but shared a conviction or stood up for some little guy being unjustly ridiculed. All honored and stood up for our flag that represents our nation and for which it stands.

To read these stories of the brave, or hear of them, I am moved and sometimes shaken into some course of action I must take. I sit so safely at my desk to just share thoughts undisturbed or unchallenged.

Maybe just one small thing is needed from each one of us. It may be just the thing that stirs up or encourages another to take a stand. It may be the thing that awakens the sea monster to carry another Jonah to where he needs to be.

Never think that the thing you do is unimportant. Do it with all your heart in spite of the critics. Have you been thinking about it and questioning it? Have you been pondering and imagining that idea?

What is it really, that you are waiting for? A perfect day? There is no such thing. Maybe your thought does need to stew a bit. Maybe some adjustments should be made. It’s wise to listen to good counsel and weigh the cost.

If it depends on a set of rules or science that you can’t control then you just have to take a chance and be happy with whatever outcome develops. If it has to be a perfect equation, the right mixture, and an idyllic set of circumstances and surroundings, you may have to wait a long time or accept that your time….. may never arrive.

But, if all it depends on, is you then what are you waiting for?.
Are you waiting to be brave enough, or smart enough?
Do you need guarantees to be certain and confident about all the details.
Just in case… have to give an answer to anyone.

If so….than any time is right.
If you have said your prayers.
If you have humbled yourself enough to put your hand in the hand of the ONE who is bigger, stronger and greater than you.
ONLY until then…..are you ready.

These lives that suffered much and gave up sometimes life and limb, leave me humbled but anxious to make some sort of difference that would calm the waters for the next generation. Those true patriots, have made a mark on how I live, what decisions I make, and why I hold some things nearer and dearer than others.

Those true patriots……our founders, but also those who served in this last administration,
who really LOVED our Nation and Freedom, Liberty and Justice, makes me pause at what I must do going forward to honor them. I must reflect on their legacy, cling to the tenets in our Constitution that allow men and women to honor God and Country without enslaving others.

Stamp out lies and lawbreakers and uphold truth and dignity for all mankind at home and abroad. Peace to our world, dear Lord put Peace in my heart.

The Finlandia hymn, “Be Still, My Soul” refers to a serene hymn-like section of the patriotic symphonic poem Finlandia, written by the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. It was later re-worked by the composer into a stand-alone piece.

1 Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side;
bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;
leave to thy God to order and provide;
in ev’ry change He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: thy best, thy heav’nly Friend
thro’ thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

2 Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake
to guide the future as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
all now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know
His voice, who ruled them while He dwelt below.

3 Be still, my soul: when dearest friends depart,
and all is darkened in the veil of tears,
then shalt thou better know His love, His heart,
who comes to soothe thy sorrow and thy fears.
Be still, my soul: thy Jesus can repay
from His own fullness all He takes away.

4 Be still, my soul: the hour is hast’ning on
when we shall be forever with the Lord,
when disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past,
all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

I like to write for the pure enjoyment of writing short excerpts about life in general. I would want my writing to bring inspiration or encouragement to the faint-hearted or those looking for some direction, purpose, or meaning. I am searching daily for what it is God wants me to do and who he wants me to become. It is a growing pain for me. We all have something new we can learn and share with others.
