If you are like me, you are healthy as far as eating habits, the books you read, what you watch, and how you relate to most people and how you react to adversity. You are not easily offended and can carry on a conversation with just about anyone you come in contact with.
But I am far from perfect, if you are like me, you’ve made your fair share of mistakes and I do have some regrets. Even though, I learned somethings because of choices I made, the regret will be with me forever….at least in this lifetime.
If you are like me, you love the Lord. You are a believer in Jesus Christ and read your Bible daily. You don’t judge others, at least try not to. I am not perfect, and have been forgiven for my sins and offenses. How can I not forgive another?
If you are like me, you know that God wants all of us to find our own way to him, yet know he is everyone’s Savior. People of all race and creed need only to accept HIM, need HIM, ASK for HIS forgiveness, as I did, if you are like me…you will come to that point in your life.
If you are like me you can’t help yourself, but like to give people a little push in the right direction if I feel they may be on shaky ground. Slipping and falling does not hurt anyone, though, and sometimes it is good to shake off some of our pride. Sometimes, all I can do is watch and pray for someone I love. If you are like me, you may have to accept the fact that we may be the last person those we love, may want to hear from. I get it. Do you have a prodigal…like me? A grandchild you are not allowed “easily” to see….like me?
If you are like me, you love nature and freak out if something is getting thrown away but could be used again and again. You get upset when you see waste, when lazy people, that you know could help themselves or lend a hand, won’t lift a finger or a limb.
If you are like me, you love a rainy day. You make a big deal of a caterpillar in the grass, an abandoned birds nest in a bush in the Fall. If you are like me, a setting sun painting the sky with reds and yellows make you freeze as if you could hold it in time on your own. If you are like me you are always looking for your camera or phone to capture the moment.
If you are like me, you like to stay in shape, but don’t ever go to the gym. You make sure you do some squats and try to bend your knees and keep your back straight if you have to pick up something. You prefer the stairs to using the elevator or the escalator. You are biking at least once a week in the summer if you live in Minnesota, like me.
If you are like me, you make your bed every day no matter what time you get out of it. Your home does not usually have everything in it’s place, but you have no cobwebs, at least that you can find. You love to clean but sometimes you don’t mind if the dishes are taken out of the dishwasher to put away even 24 hours later.
If you are like me you like to serve. You like to pitch in. You like to hold a baby so a new mom can go visit someone across the room. If you are like me, you take care of yourself but rarely visit a clinic, but get your routine checks each year, even if you never feel like it. You read about food and have home grown things in your garden, or visit the Farmer’s Market. You prefer homeopaths or finding how to change your diet to fix any health issue you may be having. You never take drugs unless it is the only way (earache/dentist/eyedrops….etc.).
I do get a flu shot now every year. After three years in a row with the flu and staying in bed each time for a week I had enough!
If you are like me, you shop online because sometimes, it truly is the frugal thing to do. The less time you spend in stores, where you are easily distracted, and could put something in your cart you can do without, the better for your pocketbook. You can’t help that you are always thinking about the pocketbook.
You are always thinking how to make a dollar go farther, than to throw away a penny, if you are like me. Your ears can hear when someone asked a question you might be able to answer. You can see someone struggling you may be able to help. You don’t mind stopping your work in the flower bed if you see your neighbor is out in their yard, just to walk over and have a chat, if you are like me.
But I hate to exercise. I don’t own a rowing machine or a treadmill or a weigh bench. But I love a firm body, especially on a lady over 60, if you are like me….but I am not the body I want yet. Although my ideal weight, I want more muscle mass. That is what I have to look forward to if I work at it. If not, flabby everything drooping to the earth. Disgusting and very weakening. Women hide it or they just don’t care but if you are like me, you will find a way and I have.
I bought protein powder I add to my yogurt. I was doing some push ups but not seeing any results after weeks of trying. They are the old lady kind, on your knees. But, if I build up enough strength in my abs, maybe I will get there and be able to do one regular push up like the military does. It is on my bucket list. And, I might add, the only thing on it.
I go in front of the bathroom mirror to brush my teeth for my squats. I hold a squat the entire time I am brushing. If you don’t feel the burn, what’s the point? That is what I have been told. Also in the bathroom I keep a small set of hand wights (just 3 lbs each) on a chair next to the stool. When I am doing my “business” when others may grab the latest issue of Good Housekeeping or People, I grab my weights and do some lifts and curls.
When anywhere in my house and I think of it, I lift my knees high as if I am marching to the other room. This all seems silly if anyone were watching me, but who cares? I hate to exercise so this way I am getting it done over time throughout the day rather than in one boring one hour session all at once.
Just ONE thing I do, leads to me doing TWO. I am only up to thirty-five push-ups and I do squats every time I think I could. Soon all this will become a habit just like brushing my teeth and making my bed. I know exercise is hard work or at least very boring, if like me, you hate it. Still, we must keep moving or we will eventually stop moving all together. When you are old and grey do you want a “mobile” lifestyle or one where someone else is moving you around?
There is little reason so many of us in the USA are obese. It is so dangerous! There is no reason so many can hardly get out of a chair without looking morbidly ridiculous. So, let’s talk about “IT”…. “It” being over-weight.
Over-weight, being, “over” our medically safe ideal weigh, not just the weight you want it to be or feel comfortable with. A weight that your heart can handle. You don’t want it working overtime, cutting your life span in half from what you could have with a healthy weight.
I know the food that you have available to you, has something to do with “it”. I know metabolism has something to do with “it”. Maybe you think where you live has something to do with “it”. You can throw away the excuses because, unless you do have a medical condition that prevents you from getting some sort of exercise, you have no reason to start moving.
There is ONE thing you can do. Besides making the right choices in what you consume, you can do ONE thing. Maybe drink more water and less soda. For every an of soda you have to drink one tall glass of water. It’s a start. I don’t know you or where you are at. I am not going to say you can do it because maybe you can’t. You may not have what it takes.
But if you are like me, you know that God is just a prayer away and he listens to his children.
If you are like me you want to take better care of the body he has given you. You will ask him to forgive you, you will ask him to help change your life. If you are like me you know you need Him because He can handle anything. Jesus will help you because, if you are like me you know there is no one else who can.
One thing……Jesus Christ will help you move on to Two things that help you get to Three…and so on and so on.
